When we first heard about SodaStream we were both excited to try it, but were both skeptics as well. I thought there was no way I could really make my own soda.. But I was wrong! What is SodaStream? SodaStream is an at home soda maker that turns tap water into soda by adding carbonation and flavored syrup.
Though the SodaStream was a little tricky to figure out at first it ended up being very simple to use. All you do is chill a bottle of water, screw it onto the SodaStream maker, press the button to add carbonation, add the flavor, shake and drink.. Not too complicated right?
SodaStream offers over 30 varieties of flavored syrup including cola, root beer, lemon-lime, ginger ale, cranberry-raspberry, and several others. I've actually only tried two of them so far, the root beer and the cranberry-raspberry. The root beer actually tastes just like root beer you'd buy from the store. The cranberry-raspberry is too sweet for me but I think it has potential.
I've had SodaStream for a couple weeks now but I wanted to give it a very thorough review because at first I was not a big fan. I tried the cranberry-raspberry several times adding different amounts of carbonation to see if that made a difference but it was still too sweet. I didn't like the root beer at first because the recommended amount of carbonation was too much for me. Three buzzes is recommended but I think it's perfect with two buzzes. One things for sure, make sure the water is refrigerated and not fresh out of the sink. Now that I've figured out the right amount of carbonation for my liking I'm going to start trying the other flavors.
I really like that SodaStream is environmentally friendly. All you need is one bottle for water (which has to be specific for SodaStream) and one bottle of syrup and you can make over 33 cans of soda. Plus you'll have a lot more room in the fridge too!
You can buy SodaStream online on their website or at many retailers including Kohl's, Macy's, Sears, and Bed Bath and Beyond.
Disclosure: I was provided with a SodaStream and everything needed to make soda for this review. All opinions are my own.
