Synopsis: SNL’s Norm MacDonald is the voice of Fang, a vampire dog that’s all bark and no bite in VAMPIRE DOG, a Dove-approved “tail” of friendship and courage arriving just in time for the Halloween season. Twelve-year-old Ace is just like any other new kid at school, until his grandfather from Transylvania dies and sends him his dog, Fang. Ace soon discovers that his gramps’ best friend is a 600-year-old, English-speaking vampire dog! In one adventure after another, mad scientist Dr. Warhol and her bumbling assistant, Frank, try to capture Fang and steal his DNA in the hopes of developing the latest anti-aging technology. But lucky for Ace, Fang manages to stay one step ahead of his pursuers. Meanwhile, along the way, an enduring friendship develops as Ace and Fang discover that, together, they can face their fears and do anything. VAMPIRE DOG airs this Halloween on Disney XD.
Our Thoughts: My boys are big fans of the talking dog movies (Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Space Buddies, Spooky Buddies, etc...) so they were pretty excited when we were sent a copy of Vampire Dog to review. Now, the movie starts off a little slow and obviously isn't a larger budget film but overall it's not too bad. It's a fun Halloween movie that's not too gruesome but still has the vampire theme... The dog can't be in direct sunlight, eats red jelly (or Jello) as opposed to drinking blood, and has super fast vampire-like speed.
I will say that to me, some of the parts of the movie didn't really seem to fit, but to the kids, it didn't matter! This movie has a great story line teaching kids about friendship and the fact that it's important to face their fears... All while being fun and quirky at the same time! It's definitely a cute movie that can be enjoyed together as a family.
