Why it’s important to read to your child

reading

We are telling children that reading and books are good for them, but have we ever really thought about why that is true? What do children get out of reading novels? What do kids get from being read to reading the tales of kid? Does reading matter?

Let’s start with the practical advantages and after that proceed into a lifetime filled with reading’s rewards. The capacity to learn about new subjects and find useful information for anything at all, from health issues and consumer protection, to academic research, is determined by the capability to read.

Some experts predict the death of the printed word but, ironically, the internet has made studying more a part of people’s everyday lives.

To use the net and judge the authenticity and value of the information provided encourages studying and develops critical thinking skills.

The more kids read, the better they will become at studying.

The more pleasing the things they read, the further they will develop the studying skills that they’ll need to become successful.

Reading should be seen as a source of amusing stories, factual information and an activity that is enjoyable for you and your kids. Start them young. The more young kids read tales and are read to, the greater their interest in mastering anything.

Reading out loud exposes kids to proper grammar and phrasing.

Reading books, kid’s stories, magazines or websites, exposes children to new vocabulary. When parents read out loud to kids, it becomes a bonding experience and the kids also hear correct pronunciation as they see the words on the page, even when they cannot yet read the words on their very own.

A new pool cleaner for Christmas!

two boys

With two boys that are full of energy, having a backyard pool is a godsend! When I was growing up I always thought that pools were for the rich but these days, whether it’s for exercise or togetherness, luxury or convenience households are getting their own pools. You don’t have to be rich to afford a pool. There are many different kinds of pools to suit just about every budget.

Last summer, we got the boys an above ground pool to keep them cool on those long hot, dry days. It was one of the best things we ever did. Splashing around the pool keeps the boys busy and having fun out of my way! They are happy and so am I! Allowing them the swim time also gives me a bargaining chip to motivate them to read more.

This Christmas, we decided to treat ourselves to a new pool vacuum. I’ve been doing a bit of research on above ground pool cleaners and have found that there’s not as much choice as there are for in-ground pools.

After much deliberation, we’ve narrowed the choice down to Intex or Aquabot. I still can’t decide which is the best above ground pool vacuum, although the Aquabot is way more expensive than Intex. We’re so happy with our pool we think we may just lash out and buy the Aquabot. If anyone out there has one or the other I’d love to know how you’re going with your pool cleaner.

If you’re thinking about a pool, you might want to decide whether to get an above ground pool or an in-ground pool. Above ground pools are much cheaper but they don’t look as nice and tidy as pools dug into the ground.

Installation costs can vary from $700 for a small above-ground pool to tens of thousands for a designer landscaped pool.

Landscaped pools can be expensive but they sure do transform the backyard. It’s my dream to have an in-ground pool one of these days (like the one my neighbor has).

For an in-ground pool, I realise I will need to hire a contractor or various subcontractors, like an excavator, mason, plumber, electrician and carpenter. I was checking out some new pools and found these ones. One day, sigh! Dream on….

How to motivate your child

how to motivate your kid

Ever thought about how to get your kids the value of learning? Or to help your children discover their true self? Learning how to motivate your child is something every parent should learn.

The secret is in knowing the difference between teaching them and helping them to learn what to understand. Children must be prepared to learn by introducing them to the fundamental learning skills such as writing, reading and arithmetic.

This is where instilling and discipline of learning habits is required. This stage can be very bothersome for some kids if they’re pushed beyond their level of ability.

It is of importance that is essential to monitor the kid’s learning process, so the child always has the choice to experience success and adapt the prerequisites.

You’re teaching your kid the tools she or he will need to educate themselves. It is in this area in which you need excellence, discipline and endurance. They need freedom once they’ve learned to utilize the tools. Children need the freedom to pursue topics of their interest.

Among present day’s flaws instruction is that of cramming it down the throats of our kid, and needing tons and tons of knowledge that does not relate in whatever manner.

No surprise they get tired of studying all of the stuff that is irrelevant and produces a hardship towards their education. Let them concentrate on an area that’s relevant to their lives.

How to rejoice being a mother of two boys

I must admit I get fed up of all of the digger books, the firetruck books, the dinosaurs and the good versus evil stories. I’d love to just read about fairies and princesses, but I know that it won’t happen anytime soon.

So I’ve found it has been important for me to find books we both me and my boys can enjoy. Books which includes adventure and rescue, but additionally have an angle.

It’s tiring being a mom with two boys. Over the years I have learnt to put up with the cars. and the tools. The desire to construct something and after that knock it down or jump off it.

At the toy shop, I have been battling going into the boy section, up till last season. I believed I’d choose gender-neutral toys. But have discovered it’s harder than I thought to ignore my son when he rushes into the boy toy section.

A couple of months ago my youngest son was introduced to the Transformers figurines. After many requests, I succumbed and got my son a Transformer.

I managed to convince him he could choose to transform his own personality at any time. And it worked. He really loved playing with the toy. And since then, we’ve found ways to weave transformers into tales and play situations revolving around character building, serving others, and working with others.

From this experience, I’ve discovered that there are ways to turn boy toys into constructive learning experiences.

I’ve been really open to letting my boys discover the things they like doing without adhering to a stereotype. Fortunately, we all like swimming!

For instance, boys can enjoy sewing. They can enjoy going to the Opera. They might be into fashion! So I want to remember not to stereotype them and to be aware of their natural skills.

I would hate to force them into a mould and to mother them with an open heart and an open mind. I keep on reminding myself that boy things aren’t bad.

Being active isn’t bad! Being loudly is not necessarily bad either!
