Cook Up a Storm this Winter {Guest Post}

Winter is all about comfort food cooked at home. What could be more satisfying than a roast dinner, a hearty stew or a delicious homemade pie during the cold weather? Plus, preparing yummy meals at home is a great excuse for the family to gather together around the dinner table. Check out ASDA's range of electric cookers to help you create some delicious and healthy winter recipes. Here are just a few of our favorite winter warmers:

Roast Dinner
Perfect for lazy Sunday lunches; choose from succulent roast beef, juicy roast pork, or tender roast lamb with all the trimmings for a really pleasing winter meal. Plus, plenty of delicious and nutritious vegetables that go hand in hand with roasts meats are in season over the winter months, such as parsnips, sprouts, leeks and cauliflowers.

There’s nothing simpler to prepare and more delicious to eat than a hearty stew or casserole. From traditional Irish stews and beef casseroles, to exotic Moroccan tagines and Caribbean-inspired chicken stews, most pot cooked dishes involve just meat, vegetables, stock, and hours in the oven - leaving you to relax with a glass of wine!

Nourishing and hearty, winter pies are perfect for warming your cockles during the cold winter months. Choose from simple, comforting fish pie or cottage pie, or if you’re feeling more adventurous, try delicious combinations such as beef and ale or roast vegetable and hummus for the ultimate pie recipes.

Toad in the hole
This classic dish is a wonderful fusion of light, crispy batter and plump, juicy sausages – all moistened with tasty onion gravy. Serve with mashed potatoes, greens and baked beans – or if you’re feeling a little guilty about the sausages or the batter – serve with a green salad!

Macaroni & Cheese
Cheesy, creamy and delicious, macaroni cheese works perfectly as a side dish or even as the yummy centerpiece of a meal. Try updating this classic recipe by adding shallots and sun-blushed tomatoes for extra flavor.
