Jacked (Trent Brothers #1)
by Tina Reber
We all have skeletons in our closets.
Doctor Erin Novak was only sixteen when she was accused of a crime she didn't commit. Since that moment, she has made it her life goal to pursue emergency medicine, pouring her heart and soul into assuring another innocent life isn’t lost to the hands of the wicked.
We all have secrets we've never shared.
Detective Adam Trent has lost control of everything, starting with losing his partner to a punk with a gun and then everything else to the crushing guilt. Now a member of the elite Auto Theft Task Force in Philadelphia, it's his job to be one step ahead of the criminals stealing expensive cars in the city. Too bad the television cameras keep getting in the way of his investigation.
We all have pasts that we can never escape.
A stolen car, a tragic chase, and a traffic stop crosses the fates of these two, tying them together in ways that are unimaginable. As their love and trust grows, so do the enemies that threaten their survival, testing the strength of their commitment. Can true love endure half-truths, past pains, and secrets never meant to be shared?
Some things are just out of our control.
Nine times out of ten when I pick up a romantic suspense it ends up with more of an emphasis on the suspense, with a little romance thrown in. Luckily that wasn't the case with Jacked. While the romance frustrated me to no end, it was still a huge part of the book which is what I was really hoping for when I started reading it.
Erin and Adam meet under horrible circumstances that really leave you wondering how they could possibly start any sort of relationship after that. And throughout the first half of the book I was still wondering if they'd end up together. I mean, Adam frustrated me so much at times that I was ready to put the book down and walk away more than once but I'm so glad I stuck it out because once he fell for her... Total book boyfriend material.
Adam is a total badass cop through and through. He's sexy, he's dominant, he's possessive, but at the same time he's sweet, and caring, and totally vulnerable when it comes to Erin.
And Erin... I loved her! She always put everyone first, trying to hold it together for her family, while being insecure when it comes to men and relationship after having been hurt so many times in the past. She's strong and controlled when in doctor mode but complete putty in Adam's hands. I loved it!
Jacked is definitely a longer read than what I'm used to but that really didn't bother me. It started off great, then there was some lull in the middle, but all the drama at the end was totally worth it.
I would have easily given it 5 stars had it not been for the end. I get that this is the first book in the series, and it kinda makes sense to have the last chapter in Jason's POV since he's the hero in the next book, but I invested so much time on Erin and Adam that I was really unhappy with where they left off.
Needless to say, I'll definitely be checking out Amped, the next book in the series, just to get a look at Erin and Adam's future.
Disclosure: I was provided with an ARC of Jacked in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
