Running Hot (Bad Boys Undercover 0.5)
by HelenKay Dimon
HelenKay Dimon kicks off her hot new romantic suspense series, Bad Boys Undercover, featuring the fierce men of Alliance—and the only women capable of taming their hearts.
Camped out at a resort bar in Fiji, CIA operative Ward Bennett may look like he's on vacation but he's really deep undercover, hunting a dictator on the run. Ward may be on the job, but that doesn't mean there isn't time for the sexy female bartender. That is, until she drugs him.
When Tasha Gregory discovers the hottie on the barstool isn't who he pretends to be, her MI6 training kicks into gear, and she has no choice but to take him out. Problem is, Ward's not an easy man to put down for long. More than once, his interference almost blows her surveillance operation—and her ability to keep her heart to herself.
As the situation heats up, these two must decide whether they can trust one another—and quick. Working together might just make everyone safer, but getting close enough for comfort … might just get them killed.
He was up and out of the chair in a second. She jumped back but he moved faster. He nailed her in the midsection, thinking to take her to the floor and question her once he had her pinned down and under him.
She tried to stop him with a knee to the jaw but he held on. With one hand under her knee, he tugged and her balance faltered. He started to knock her down when he felt the prick in his shoulder.
That fast his fingers stopped bending and he lost his hold. Before he could shout his tongue went numb and his muscles turned to liquid. One second he was on his feet and the next he slammed to his knees. He could feel his body lean from one side to the other as he stared at the floor, watching the wood slats jump and dance through blurred vision.
Gentle hands pushed him onto his side. Her hair swept over her shoulder and against his cheek as she leaned over him. No matter how hard he tried, how much he concentrated, he couldn’t reach out and grab her. He didn’t even have enough control over his body to shove her away when her lips brushed against his ear.
“And you forgot that I knocked you out once.” She waved something in front of his face. Looked like a needle. “Lucky for me I brought a second dose.”
The bure started to spin.
“Be a good boy and stay out of my way, Ward.”
Running Hot is filled with non-stop action that continues right through until the last chapter. It had me sucked in from the first page and I didn't put it down until I finished!
I love a badass heroine and Tasha is definitely badass! In the first scene we get to watch her take down our hero, Ward, not once but twice. And the kicker? He thinks she's that much hotter for doing it.
Ward is CIA and Tasha is MI6 and they're both in Fiji to take down the same bad guy. Of course they decide to team up and what ensues is romantic suspense at it's finest. We have knife fights and gun battles, sexy times between Ward and Tasha, and of course, working together to take down the head honcho.
This would have easily been a 5 star read for me had it not been for that ending. I feel that everything wrapped up way too quickly after they took down the baddie, and the fact that Ward completely ignored Tasha for months afterward? Not cool!
I'm definitely looking forward to reading Ford's book when it comes out though, and I'll probably check out more of HelenKay Dimon's books in the mean time.
