Flirting with Scandal by Chanel Cleeton {ARC Review}

Flirting with Scandal (Capital Confessions #1)
by Chanel Cleeton

Coming May 19, 2015

The author of I See London sets her sights on Washington, D. C., with a sexy new series about three sisters, the secrets they keep, and a powerful blog with a knack for exposing scandals...

Jackie Gardner knows all about dirty little secrets. The illegitimate daughter of one of the most influential senators in Washington, D.C., she grew up surrounded by the scandals and shadows of politics. Now that she's landed an internship with a powerful political consulting firm, she's determined to launch her career and take this city by storm.

William Andrew Clayton was born for politics. He knows the drill: work hard, play discreetly, and at all costs, avoid scandal. At twenty-six, his campaign for the Virginia State Senate is the first step to cementing his future. It's time for him to settle down, to find the perfect political spouse. He needs a Jackie Kennedy, not a Marilyn...

When Jackie meets Will in the bar of the Hay-Adams Hotel, sparks fly. But the last thing Will needs is to be caught in a compromising position, and an affair with a political candidate could cost Jackie her career. When what began as one steamy night, becomes a passion neither one of them can walk way from, they must decide if what they have is really love, or just another dirty little secret…

I'm not big into politics and I generally stay clear of books with politicians but something about Flirting with Scandal called to me and I'm so glad I decided to give it a chance.

Being the illegitimate daughter of a senator, Jackie has been around politics her whole life. Her mom is what I would call a political groupie so Jackie has made it a point to avoid politicians on a romantic level at all costs... Until Will approaches her in a bar. Things get pretty hot and heavy right off the bat until Jackie realizes that Will is exactly what she has tried to avoid her whole life.

Imagine both of their surprises when Will shows up at the political consulting firm that Jackie is interning at and they learn that Jackie will be helping out on his campaign. Of course they both realize that the smart thing to do would be to steer clear of each other romantically, but unfortunately, neither seems to do the smart thing when it comes to the other.

Flirting with Scandal is forbidden office romance at it's finest... I'm talking smoking hot sexy times with the potential of getting caught... Does that not always make it so much hotter?! Add in Will's dirty talk and whew... I definitely expected my kindle to catch on fire a few times!

As far as the characters went... I absolutely loved Will. He's not your typical manwhore that's afraid of commitment, blah blah blah. On the contrary, he's the sweetest, most romantic guy, and he only takes their relationship slow for Jackie's benefit. Now Jackie, on the other hand, was a little harder to like. She was headstrong and independent, which I loved, but she was also a lot more immature than I expected her to be which took away some of her awesomeness in my opinion.

Overall, this was a great read. It was light and easy in some spots and dramatic and angsty in others... Basically it was everything I look for in a forbidden office romance and if it wasn't for my issues with Jackie, I would have easily given this one five stars.

Disclosure: I was provided with a copy of Flirting with Scandal through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
