Diamond Legacy by Monica McCabe {ARC Review}

Diamond Legacy
by Monica McCabe

Coming July 7, 2015

Africa–where diamonds are the currency of the weapons trade, and trust is the only option between two strangers...

Miranda Parrish is a world-renowned veterinarian specialist with expertise in endangered species. She's fearless and will go anywhere an animal is in need. But when she journeys to Katanga, an animal sanctuary in the heart of Botswana, she lands in the middle of a blood diamond smuggling operation. And there's only one man who can help her….

Special agent, Matt Bennett's parents were murdered by a ruthless arms dealer when he was fourteen. He's devoted his life to avenging their deaths and ending the cycle of violence threatening southern Africa. Undercover at Katanga, he clashes with Miranda. He's never met a woman so stubborn, who'll let nothing stand in the way of what she believes in. And he'll let no one come between him and his vengeance.

Matt and Miranda will have to work together if they want to save Katanga, and both of their lives, before it's too late.

There's something about romantic suspense novels set in foreign countries that always draw me in and Diamond Legacy was no exception. I mean, just look at that cover for one, then throw in an undercover agent and a woman that isn't afraid of a little danger and I was hooked!

Miranda has just been given the opportunity of a lifetime... Spend five weeks working at an animal sanctuary in Africa. She's a little hesitant at first because Africa holds bittersweet memories for her family, but not only is it a great career move, Miranda is a wild child at heart and this is just the sort of adventure she craves.

At the airport in Africa, Miranda gets in the middle of a thief take down with the hottest cop she's ever seen. Imagine her surprise when said cop ends up being the janitor at Katanga, the animal sanctuary where she works.

Matt is an agent at IDS, International Diamond Security, that's gone undercover as a janitor at Katanga on Intel that someone there is smuggling diamonds. As soon as Miranda learns that Katanga is at risk she insists on helping Matt and the two start clashing left and right.

Of course the attraction is there from the get go and arguing with each other only seems to fuel that desire. And once the two of them start spending more time together the attraction starts to turn into something neither are willing to admit. I wish I could say that once the two of them got together it was explosive, but unfortunately the sexy times were a little lackluster in my opinion.

Luckily, the action and suspense totally made up for that. Between stakeouts and molotov cocktails, there was non stop action that had me on the edge of my seat. And what made it even better was having a heroine that wasn't a shrinking violet when it came to danger... Oh no, that girl held her own and then some. She did have one or two TSTL moments when she probably should have kept her mouth shut but I loved that she refused to go down without a fight.

I would have liked a little more at the end but the epilogue wrapped things up pretty nicely. Overall, this was a great romantic suspense and I can't wait to see what Monica McCabe delivers next.

Disclosure: I was provided with an ARC of Diamond Legacy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
