The Strongest Steel (Second Circle Tattoos #1)
by Scarlett Cole
Coming July 7, 2015
Harper Connelly never expected to find herself outside of a tattoo parlor at one in the morning, summoning the nerve to take back her past. She's determined to forget her old life and is looking for an artist who can tattoo over the scars on her back.
Trent Andrews, local legend and owner of the Second Circle tattoo studio, has his own reasons for specializing in inking over scars. And in spite of her mysterious past and the difficult road ahead, he quickly realizes that Harper is funny, smart, and--under her ridiculously oversized clothing and SPF 100 sunscreen--totally hot. He's happy to take on the challenge of designing a meaningful and deadly full-back tattoo for her.
But when cryptic messages start appearing on Harper's phone, strange deliveries arrive at her door, and Second Circle is vandalized, Harper is convinced that her ex-boyfriend has tracked her down, and worse, that he knows about Trent. Running was the only thing that saved her last time, but now that she's started to put down roots in Miami, she'll have to decide if she can finally fight back instead.
I love discovering new authors and after reading The Strongest Steel, Scarlett Cole has definitely been added to my list of must read authors. Seriously, I cannot believe that this was her debut novel!!
After fleeing her abusive ex and living in Miami for the past four years, Harper is finally ready to do something about the scars on her back. Of course, she didn't expect to find herself at Second Circle in the middle of the night, but after seeing Trent and not being able to sleep, she decided that that's exactly what she needed to do.
Trent is a well known tattoo artist and specializes in covering up scars but after seeing Harper's scars he's affected like never before. He knows what she's asking him to do is very hard for her and is determined to help her.
I loved the instant connection between Harper and Trent. Harper has a serious aversion to touch but for some reason she feels safe with Trent. And when Trent asks Harper if he can hug her? Swoon!
The pacing of their relationship is absolutely perfect based on Harper's past. I loved how Trent was patient with her (for the most part) and allowed Harper to set the pace. Of course things get a little complicated when they both start keeping secrets from each other but luckily the drama wasn't stretched out too long.
I have to admit that I was hoping for a little more at the end... Is Harper still working at the diner or going back into teaching? And why doesn't she travel with Trent? But overall, I was happy with their HEA and can't wait to read the next book in the series.
