Waking the Bear (Broken Chains #1)
by Kerry Adrienne
Overprotective bear shifter, Griff Martin, reluctantly rents his mountain cabin to an artist, Amy Francis. He quickly realizes the plucky artist is mate. But danger is brewing in the forest, and Griff has to be ready to safeguard both his female and his den, at the risk of losing both.
I've been on a bit of a paranormal kick lately and as soon as I read the blurb for Waking the Bear I knew I had to get my hands on it.
After losing her job and dumping her loser boyfriend, Amy decides to take some "me time" in the mountains where she can work on her art and figure out what she wants to do with her life. She's attracted to her landlord, Griff, from the get-go but doesn't plan on pursuing anything with him... And although Griff recognizes Amy as his mate, he doesn't plan on taking their relationship past friendship since his entire den is in danger.
Poor Amy... She really played the damsel in distress role to a tee. And of course Griff was always there to protect her when danger was near, thus strengthening their bond and making them both realize that they needed each other in their lives.
Since this was such a quick read everything happened super fast... But I'm okay with that. In all honesty though, I was hoping for a little more. We're left with what I would consider a HFN ending with a bit of a cliffy regarding the danger to Griffs den and I'll definitely be checking out the next book in the series to see what happens next.
In addition to writing, she’s a college instructor, artist, costumer, and editor. Her new love is her Mini Cooper Convertible, Sheldon, and they have already gone on many adventures.
