Romance author Seven Michaels believes in love to her very core. She has to–not only for herself, but for her readers. So when luxury salesman Blake Turner insults not only her books but the people who read them, Seven’s ready to throw down. How dare a playboy like Blake insinuate romance lovers are full of crap?
He wants proof? Fine. She bets Blake she can make him fall for her by using the rules in her latest novel before the end of the convention, or she’ll denounce love in front of all her fellow authors and fans at the Romance Lovers Convention ball. A dangerous game to be sure, but humiliating Blake is worth the risk.
But when Seven realizes she’s the one who’s being seduced, she’s no longer sure who is playing whom…or whether she’ll have a career when the bet is over.
Heat rushed to her hairline, and she closed her eyes. There was no way she could tell him what all the commotion was about. Her clumsiness wasn’t the least bit sexy. An idea took shape. Could she actually do it? She stifled a giggle, her stomach fluttering with nerves. She’d need to ditch her little housefly balls in order to pull this off. Making a quick detour to her suitcase, she sifted through the belts and accessories until her hand closed around what she’d been looking for. A girl’s best friend, she never left home without it.
She stood back behind the door and opened it just a few inches.
Blake stood outside her door, wearing his pants and opened button-down shirt. With his feet bare and his jacket and tie missing, Seven suspected he had everything already hung up and in straight lines back in his room. She liked seeing him mussed up a bit, and took in his meaty chest and rock-hard abs in one eye-fulfilling look, doing everything in her power not to drool.
He placed a hand on the frame of her door. “Are you okay? I heard something fall and swore I heard you shout.”
Everything in Seven’s single-woman brain screamed for her to open the door and yank the sexy-ass man into her room, but she had a game to play, and she aimed to win. She waved away his words. “Oh, I’m fine.” She panted and turned just enough for him to see her shoulder and part of her waist. She could just imagine how she looked to him, with perspiration on her upper lip, half naked, and her hair disheveled from her fall—and she loved it.
His eyes flared. “What happened?”
It was now or never. There was nothing better than leaving a man wondering, imagining, and wishing he were on the other side of that door. Rule number seven: always leave him wanting more.
Holding her breath, she lifted her dildo up and turned it on.
Blake’s jaw dropped, and his eyes went wide.
“See you in two hours.” And she closed the door.
Drunk on You
by Teri Anne Stanley
Justin Morgan would happily drown the pain of his injured leg-and the guilt he brought back from Afghanistan-in bourbon. Except, there won’t be any booze if he doesn’t rescue his family’s century-old distillery from financial ruin. The problem? Allie McGrath-youngest daughter of the distillery’s co-owners, and the one woman he can’t have.
Allie has been in love with Justin since…well, she’s always been in love with him. Now he’s home, broken up over the death of her brother, and he needs help. She can fix the distillery-she’s sure of it-but no one’s taking her or her sweet new idea seriously. Convincing Justin is her only hope.
Allie is more tempting than Justin expected, threatening a promise he swore he’d never break. If he can’t keep their attraction under control, there’s a solid chance they’ll send the whole enterprise crumbling to the ground…if he doesn’t crash and burn first.
Jesus, Mary, and Uncle Steve. She was on her knees in front of him, and he was wearing a damned towel. He had a moment of dream déjà vu. A strand of rich honey hair had come loose from her ponytail and curled in the steam rising from the tub. He reached out to tuck it around his finger, but then pulled up short of actually touching her. She was Dave’s kid sister. No touching.
She looked up, something like heat in her eyes that was quickly masked by humor. “Do you want some Mr. Bubble in your tub?”
He actually considered it. She was going to have to help him in and out of the tub. But he couldn’t quite figure out how he was going to casually scoop a handful of bubbles over his semi-stiffy between dropping his towel and getting into the water.
He turned a little, to maneuver his good leg into the tub. He took a breath and grabbed the side of his towel, ready to yank it off.
Allie must have realized the reality of his predicament, because her face was red. She met his eyes with a stricken expression, then dropped her gaze like his groin was an eye magnet.
“It’s just a dick, Sneezy,” Justin said, pulling the towel off Band-Aid-style—all at once, to get the agony over with. He lowered himself into the water while she cradled his damaged ankle.
She stared at his crotch. And kept staring. Justin almost reached for the towel again.
“You’re right. It’s just a dick,” she said, once he was settled. She turned to walk out. “I’m going to get started on some work. Holler when you want to get out of the tub.”
“It’s not just a dick,” he called after her. “It’s a really nice dick!”
Gambling on the Bodyguard
by Sarah Ballance
Ski instructor Ellie Montgomery hits Vegas during a romance convention to meet the man of her dreams…only, the man of her dreams isn’t the cover model she’s there to see. He’s the hot-as-sin bodyguard who catches her sneaking in the back door of a meet-and-greet, and he seems more than ready to do what it takes to prove he’s twice the man her pretty boy crush could ever be.
Jax Mathis couldn’t resist snagging a date with Ellie, but he didn’t count on the attraction being more than physical. They connect on a level he didn’t think possible–and he can’t run fast enough. She makes him want things he thought he’d never have, and maybe, just maybe, they’re within reach. But to have it, he’ll have to face the one mountain he swore he’d never climb…and with no guarantee she’ll be waiting on the other side.
Desire rocketed through him, the intentionally slow pace more brutal than any he’d ever known. He shifted, nudging deeper, feeling her leg slide the length of his. She arched against him, baring her neck, and he claimed the spot with his mouth. Fingernails raked his back, but still he held on. He tried not to think about what she was doing to him. What she allowed him to do to her.
Her body enveloped him, all heat and fire, and he held her with everything he had. Kissed her neck. Nibbled her ear. All the while, driving into her, rocking his hips, pistoning longer, slower, deeper. Breaking a sweat, tasting that she’d done the same.
And kissing her. Dear God, the sweet slide of her tongue with his was enough to leave him undone. He explored every crevice, tasted every part of her, swallowed every whimper. Forced himself to take her deeper, pushing against the bed with one knee, gaining traction. Nudging her across the sheets with his desire to consume her, to so thoroughly become a part of her body that he’d be there forever. He knew the moment she came. Knew she hadn’t been thrown off some cliff to flail, to seek purchase from thin air. That wouldn’t happen, not this time. He gave her something to hold on to while she trembled. Kissed her. Touched her hair, cupped her face. Held on until his own orgasm took over, stealing his sense of self, leaving him shaking and lost.
Lost, with no real desire to be found.
When he went to the bathroom to clean up, he didn’t recognize himself in the mirror. Didn’t recognize what raged inside him.
Just went back to the bed and held her, knowing it had to be enough.
Knowing damn well it’d never even come close.
