Necessary Risk (Bodyguard #1)
by Tara Wyatt
Trained to protect against all danger, a professional bodyguard can provide all the muscle a woman needs. But when their hearts are on the line, love is the riskiest business . . .
SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME
Former child star Sierra Blake is making a stunning Hollywood comeback-and attracting a scary amount of attention. When her home is vandalized and her safety threatened, she knows it's time to bring in the professionals. But from the moment she sets eyes on her indecently sexy new bodyguard, Sierra's thoughts are anything but professional . . .
Few things in this world scare Sean Owens-until he realizes he's in serious danger of losing his heart to his new client. No matter how much he wants to, Sean won't let his feelings for the smart and gorgeous Sierra get in the way of doing his job. Because as the attacks against her escalate, crossing the line between business and pleasure could get them both killed.
Anyone who knows me knows how much I love a good romantic suspense novel and if it has the bodyguard trope? I'm a goner! So, of course I couldn't wait to get my grabby hands on a copy of Necessary Risk.
Sierra is a former child star that's getting back into the spotlight in a different sort of way... By speaking out on behalf of Choices and what they do to help women. Unfortunately someone doesn't like the work that Sierra is doing and seems to be out to get her... Enter Sean.
Sean just happens to be in the right place at the right time and meets Sierra in her time of need. He feels an immediate protective pull towards her and promises to keep her safe. Having been in the security business for a while he knows that once Sierra becomes a client she is off-limits... But, of course we all know that he can only fight the inevitable for so long.
Unfortunately, for me, I had some issues with the romance in this one. Sean fights his feelings for Sierra for entirely too long, in my opinion. And Sierra... That girl just kept throwing herself at him left and right only to face rejection again and again. Once Sean finally stopped fighting it, the romance was pretty good but unfortunately by that point I found myself losing interest.
The suspense, while not exactly nail biting, did keep me intrigued. I had a couple of suspicions about who the baddie would end up being and I can't say I was surprised by who it turned out to be but I was surprised by a little twist that I didn't see coming.
Overall, Necessary Risk was a decent read with some aspects that I loved and some that I didn't but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing where Tara Wyatt takes this series next.
